Thomas W. J. Purtell
is the Founding Partner of the firm. For over a decade, Mr.
Purtell has represented clients in the areas of Personal Injury, Civil
Litigation, Business Law, Criminal Law, Family Law, and Construction
Defect Litigation. In addition to successfully
negotiating favorable settlements on behalf of his clients, Mr. Purtell
has also been trial counsel for clients in numerous successful jury
trials involving Personal Injury, Product Liability, and Business Law.Prior to founding The Law Offices of Thomas W. J. Purtell, Mr. Purtell was a Partner at Jackson Jenkins Renstrom, LLP, in San Francisco, CA, a Senior Associate at Willis │ DePasquale, LLP, in San Francisco, CA, and a Senior Associate at Jackson & Wallace, LLP, in San Francisco, CA. Before relocating to California in 2004, Mr. Purtell was a Judicial Law Clerk to the Honorable Ronald E. Vican (ret.), President Judge of Monroe County, in Stroudsburg, Pennsylvania, where he gained significant experience in criminal law, death penalty cases, and complex civil litigation. Further, Mr. Purtell was an associate at Kelly, Dubrow, and Herron, P.C., in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, where he represented and obtained compensation for seriously injured individuals.
Mr. Purtell graduated from the University of Pittsburgh with a Bachelor of Science in Psychology in 1997. In 2002, Mr. Purtell received his Juris Doctor degree from Widener University School of Law in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, and he also studied International Comparative Law at the Graduate Institute of International Law in Geneva, Switzerland.
He became a member of the Pennsylvania State Bar in 2002, the New Jersey State Bar in 2003, and the California State Bar in 2004. Mr. Purtell is also a member of the United States District Court, Central District of California, the United States District Court, Eastern District of California, and the United States District Court, Northern District of California.
When he is not advocating on behalf of his clients, Mr. Purtell enjoys spending time with his son, running, playing guitar, skiing, and spending time with family and friends.
